Though most of this email is a hoax

There are a few that are accurate

It seems there are lots of stores that are closing due to the "recession" and the fact that people are not shopping. If you have any "gift cards" from these stores, make sure you use them, or you will lose them !

Watch those store money cards and gift cards.. and credit slips! Stores that informed the Security Exchange of closing plans between October 2008 and January 2009. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

It's good that you check these things with snopes.com, but the dead giveaway of a hoax is that glaring line: "PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!"

I'll share my other tips with you all over lunch, as soon as my cheque from Bill Gates arrives.

Only the Strong will survive. lol, shitty Foot locker and GAP. Maybe a bit of recession is a good thing. Gets rid of all the rift-raft.

It's Riff Raff

I'll kindly point you to this article.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_if_a_rift_raft

It's just the ancient term for what is now "riff raff"

You best keep that "Revek" trigger finger in check. You seem to use it all the time for nonsense.

MauriceRevek's picture

The term Rift Raft as defined in the link you so convinently provided, reffered to the raft used by the people the snobs from the day did not want to be associated with who traveled on the rivers. Whereas the term Riff Raff applies to the concept of people or things that one considers to be bellow them. Now unless you were calling the stores cheap ass rafts, in which case you really should consider better glasses, the proper term is Riff Raff.

You have been judged. Your sentence: Your icon must be stamped with "REVEKED" in big bold red letters for no less than 1 week.

Admin, if you don't mind, please carry out the punishment.

Stormblade's picture

In any of these discussions always amazes me, since you have perfected the art of misspelling.

BTW. The word is conveniently.

It is still the PARENT of the phrase "riff-raff"; ergo, I can still use it.

Like calling you a dirty ape. You are not an ape technically anymore, but we evolved from apes, so it's not wholy wrong to say either.

I agree it was a misuse of the term, but certainly not "reveked".

One question posed on one website does not a fact make.

I will kindly point you to a random article, suggesting a different origin: the French term rifle et rafle.

Revek carried.

MauriceRevek's picture

Than the supposed origin that Noir has posted. We all know that French is the foundation of the English language (to prove that, take any English dictionary, open it to a radom page, and try to find less than 10 words that do not have a French origin). Now I don't dispute that the term Rift Raft may have existed, although other than the link Noir has posted, I could not find any other, but it seems that it's origin may have been the reverse than what is posted. Instead of Rift Raft being the parent, it is Riff Raff, and Rift Raft reffers to a transportation device rather than a deffinition class.

So the expression may have started out as:

Stanley: "Look at the Riff Raff ridding their Rift Raft"

George: "Why Stanly, that is a rather amuzing turn of expression. Good show old chap."

Stanley: "Thank you Sir George. I found it quite amusing myslef. Shall we relieve ourselves upon their heads?"

George: "But of course."

Cue Monty Pyton animations.

Revek carried.

because we know that latin was never used anywhere. Why just look at the word surrender, we all know that to be a favorite among the French leadership.

I think you are a member of a Riff Raff Noir

1. people, or a group of people, regarded as disreputable or worthless: a pack of riffraff.
2. the lowest classes; rabble: the riffraff of the city.
3. trash; rubbish.
–adjective
4. worthless, disreputable, or trashy.

Most of those stores are American.

A Troll's picture

they are part of the North American Free Trade Blood Sucking corporations of North America!

Noir's picture

If their Head Quarters are in the States, isn't it technically an American company?

But technicalities in the law should not prevail over common sense.
