Heroes: Fight or Flight

By Q-Bert - Posted on 23 October 2007

Wait! Can you hear that ??

It's the sweet absence of Sylar. Isn't that awesome ?

I am not sure I could have sat through another filler episode. So it's good news that this one actually had content.

First, good casting on Parkman's father. I was on my knees praying he wouldn't be the actual wimp he seemed when we first meet him. They didn't disappoint. I like his power and I like the fact that Parkman's power will evolve into that. Good, solid, classical plot line of Father vs Son. That will make a solid arch that could hold most of the season. It seems it's Parkman's father that has been haunting Nathan for the past few months. So, he's been playing in the background since the end of last season. I hope the writers will wait a long time before bringing an explanation.

We will get to Peter later.

So, I guess we are about to witness the daring duo of Catwomen and Robin. Good call by Noir on Bruce Lee. I bet he laughed his ass off when he saw that. I would not mind her being a primary character and stay on until the end of the season, but the character's base and her power doesn't lend itself to much growth. It's an all-or-nothing situation. My bet is still that she will be cannon fodder.

We will discuss Peter later.

I know they are trying to make the character of "Elle" into this bombshell assassin, but I just expect her to start saying "Like, tell me where Peter is, or, like, I'll kick your ass, or something". It really didn't help to see he speak with her daddy (Bob, I imagine) over the phone. "BUT DAD!!!"... ugh...

We are almost at Peter.

Oh, and there was something about Hiro too.

Getting at Peter in a few moments.

I know they are trying to get Mohinder to become a bad guy despite himself, but the lead-in is too confusing right now to try to figure out if they are being brilliant about it, or if they are just trying to make him *do* something to keep him on staff...

Ah, Peter, Peter, Peter. Going to Montreal, eh ? With a show of hands, how many people automatically thought of me when you saw the ticket to Montreal ? Let's speculate about the next episode, shall we ?

Peter will land in Dorval at 4:00pm and take a taxi to downtown. He will get stuck for 2 hours in the Dorval roundabout. Then another solid hour at the merging of the 20 and 13. He will go to St-Laurent and St-Jacques, right next to the Palais de Justice ( http://tinyurl.com/29g2kx ). From there he will walk to the Basillique de Notre-Dame where he will meet Maurice "MoMo" Morin, an ex-Hell's that will have the power to blow kneecaps off if you owe him money. Peter's healing ability will come in handy when he suffers cardiac arrest after eating a Poutine at the corner of St-Catherine and Amherst. After seeing the Canadiens get beaten by the Hurricanes 6-2, Peter and MoMo will head off to get some "entertainment" on Argyle Av. (Why do you think they move the Forum to there?? Much better hookers) I bet they will even take the Metro so that Tim Krig can show how exotic and dark the underground of Montreal is, especially when the Metro's PA system announces "1040.... 1040 communiquez". Then Hiro will appear and teleport all three of them the hell out of there before all the viewers tune to Spike or some shit.

This was totally filler episode #2. Did they just sign a 10-year deal with Fox, or something? It's like they're stretching things out for no good reason.

There really were no real advances. Let me break it down thusly:
- Parkman's father - we knew he was bad and had some mind shit going on. Now we just learned he's a scumbag.
- Nathan teaming up with Parkman... apparently to keep his union happy.
- Copycat - she just knows a bit more about her abilities. Micah (sp?) knows, and she knows about Mika (sp?). Big whoop.
- Blonde zapper (Elle? Where did you hear that?) may be Bob's daughter. Maybe not. Who cares. At least we now know where Peter got it from. This implies prior exposure to her before they wiped his memory. But if they had him, who helped him get away? One of the original 9 turned good?
- Hiro is still stuck in the past. And sad. Still. I was hoping for some anachronism in the scrolls to blow the mind of the antiquities expert. Something like: "Having a great time making history, please charge my iPod". But no, so it's just more filler.
- Nikki (sp?) crashes the company, only to turn wuss. A ruse? Who cares.
- Mohinder sent on an errand. Cute tie-in with Copycat, but whatever.
- Claire was absent? Gee, didn't notice.
- The Mr. Bennett/Haitian walking bit was so fake-looking and pointless, I LOL'ed. They must have blown the budget on the burning cityscape effect.
- Sylar getting his shit back will be the most interesting part of the next epsiode, barring an actual plot development.
- Peter will land in Montreal, but there will be no traffic or customs or security, and they will be taken from the airport by dogsled.

I would like to start off by saying, hell yes to wicked old school martial arts movies. My guess was dead on.

No Claire booooo. Although at the same time that meant no idiot tall boy either. An almost acceptable trade off.

I really thought this was a borderline filler episode to. Honestly nothing big happened. It was obvious someone was going to be tracking Peter and was going to kill some of his awesome Guinness drinking Irish buddies. If Q-bert is right in his guess that Elle's (where did the name come from?) can produce electricity ... could you image that tag team. Gold + electrical power. You can run the world with that combo. I say build a death ray on the moon and use her power to power the thing. :D

Uhh what else, yes, no Sylar was great. It's good to have a breath of fresh air like that.

One obvervation, why is it that Parkman and his father have the exact same power? None of the other children have shown that so far. Maybe it's a special case? Otherwise, could that mean idiot flyboy kid is another of Nathan's bastard children ... which would mean some nasty incest thing going on with him and Claire ... wtf ... :( I just don't see why they would bother duplicating powers. I suppose it could also be explain through genetics. If Parkman's mother was not "special" then the mutation for reading minds from the father might have just pasted directly to Parkman himself. Whereas, Nathan and Claire's mom both had powers. Same thing for Nicky and DL. Eitherway, I really doubt they'll explain that in the show.

I am kind of disappointed in Nicky for going to get help from the "company". I really though she left to go kick some ass.

I guess the only thing else I can think of is that there was a great soccer match today: Barcelona vs. Rangers.

I don't think Parkman's power will necessarily be exactly like his dad's. Otherwise senior would have read Nathan's mind and known they were coming in, who he was, etc.

That's also why I discounted Flyboy Jr. from being another one of Nathan's bastards. So far every hero has had a parent with an ability. To their credit, we still don't know what Mrs. Petrelli can do. Or if nothing, what their father could do. I hope we don't find out for a while. That goes double for Uhura.

Some further conjecture: assuming Sylar's mother had no ability, we have yet to find out who his *father* is. :-)
