How is it different?
My proof reader / test audience asked if "This is all based on Stormblade's "pass" comment?" Judging from the level of sarcasm and the suggested title of "And how is this any different?" I assume he could also have been referring to some kind of systemic issue.
No idea to what he may have been referring.

Did you watch the review Coxxorz posted? This is like Titanfall with a storyline. You can't play single player. You can't have a private lobby. You are expected to play with whomever joins your game at any time. I don't see how you think a pass on this is unreasonable.
Anyway, I'm cool with it. Unlike SR II (which is where this particular line of abuse originates from), I am not averse to looking into this further, but if this works as the review says it does, I can't imagine I would play it. I bought Titanfall, hated it and gave it to my son. He plays it occasionally, but doesn't really like it either. I really don't like the 'always online' concept. If there is some way for the herd to have the ability to play together, I would consider it.
Moron. Yeah, you know who you are ...
I played the Destiny beta and I have , of course, played TitanFail.
While I agree with some of your points, however while you see other players on the map while you're doing a single player mission, they don't effect your mission (unless they are doing the same mission). I will admit this is the weakest point of the game because I had a couple missions where dudes were killing the guys I was trying to kill. It does allow members of your fire team to jump in and out of the game to which I think was their priority. That you could play single player style and when friends came online it turns into multiplayer co-op. Like Borderlands.
Also you CAN play as a team in co-op modes (like zombies/extinction) and you can indeed enter multiplayer area (called crucibles) as a fire team as well. So the HoC clan can work as a team, to the amusement of everyone who cares about stats.
I found the gameplay of the Beta to be extremely Halo-ish. Which is a game I enjoyed (every version) for about a month. The vehicles feel like wraths and mongoose. The control dynamics are the same. The player customization is very similar to Mass Effect. Which is a game I loved and have played over 400 hrs. During the beta I found myself playing the challenges to upgrade my character and try to customize it how I wanted. I can see myself enjoying this aspect.
It's entirely possible that Destiny will be a 2 month game for me, however it's architecture is similar to WoW, they plan to continue it for a long time as updates. So a WoW structure, for a FPS? It may work, it may not. When no one else was interested in the game I doubted I would get it, even though I did want to play it more. Now that others are serious about picking it up, I'm definitely going to get it.
Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to by a hard copy at the store tomorrow. So if it turns out awesome, I'll have to buy a second copy.
But that's ok, with the apparent hooker draught, I have lots of cash.
