Best Buy pre-order screw up hard to believe
This just happened to me last week, with a game I bought in June
So they sent me a pre-order code in September for a game I received in June. In June! The Official Release date of Sniper Elite 3 was June 27, 2014. This is where things went ugly. So very ugly. Thanks Best Buy. Yes, that is meant to be sarcastic.
As part of Coxxorz' E3 Pre-order deal I had ordered Sniper Elite 3. Most of you remember how much I enjoyed Sniper Elite 2.
The Best Buy deal offered two separate DLC codes with Sniper Elite 3: Hunt The Grey Wolf and Hunter Weapons Pack. In theory.
Coxxorz and I both pre-ordered this game. We have a significantly long string of emails discussing whether either of us had received the DLC codes. We had not.
I finished the game within the first week. I was still playing the co-op missions with Coxxorz but basically the game had been shelved.
Until two weeks after the Official Release Date when we received the DLC code for Hunt The Grey Wolf.
Two weeks late. There was a one sided flame war in the Best Buy forums about their massive screw up on bonus codes. Despite Best Buy blaming the vendor. Maybe acceptable for the first two weeks but after more than two months I am blaming Best Buy.
One of their Community Coordinators did their best with announcing the shipment of the late codes:
- Let me start with an apology, I know you've all been kept waiting for FAR too long and this is completely unacceptable. Please also know that we are not trying to ignore the situation, the gaming team has been working hard behind the scenes/ following up with our vendor on a daily basis to ensure these codes get to you as quickly as possible.
Of course, this was dated August 26. So "as quickly as possible" meant one additional month.
I really don't have the words to express the three month delay of pre-order DLC codes. Travesty? Farce? Are you ******* kidding me?
Three months.
I accept that Sniper Elite 3 is not a Call of Duty. If it had been Call of Duty gamers would have burnt the Best Buys stores down to the ground. Even so we are talking about DLC codes. A virtual piece of software with codes that can be shipped back and forth through email. If it had been an action figure, statue or plastic gun they still could have had them remade at the factory and shipped from China in less than three months.
A missing DLC code should not take three hours to fix let alone three months.
The two week delay for the first DLC code was unacceptable. The three month delay for the second DLC code is beyond farcical.
Please note there has been no mention of any compensation of any kind. I am not saying they should refund the full cost of the game over a DLC code but there are many different acceptable forms of compensation. A $10 gift card. A discount coupon off your next game. An additional DLC code. Something other than an empty apology:
- Thank you for keeping your cool and being so patient with us! it won't be long now. (from the same August 26 posting)
Really Best Buy? This is what you call customer service?
