Yes, that is a saddle on the Dinosaur

Last night Coxxorz and I managed to meet up again in my Client Server and I showed him the progress I had been making. We still had issues with the 200M tether but we learned to work around it. I can only imagine how bad things will get with more than two players.

We were determined to finally tame our first dinosaur. I had been checking things out and had worked out the advantages of the Narcotic drug over Narco berries. I had built up a stash before we made our attempt.

We found a Level 2 Trike stuck in a tree and while she wasn't mobile she could still fight back. The first step to taming a dinosaur is to knock them unconscious with a blunt weapon such as a wooden club.

Even attacking from both sides we discovered that not only would it take a while the Trike was probably going to kill us before we knocked her unconscious.

"Too bad our arrows will kill her and not knock her out."

    "What about the slingshot?"

    "Oh my god, genius!"

Which is when we discovered she was so close to unconsciousness that it only took one shot from a slingshot to finish her off.

We then spent about two hours keeping her feed and tranquilized with narcotic until her tame bar filled before her torpor bar emptied.

Then Herd of Cats had its own tame Trike. One dinosaur between the two of us which despite your suspicions ended up being fairly civilized.

One of the things I like in Ark: Survival Evolved is the commitment to tribes. The tamed dinosaur was captured by the tribe, campfires belong to the tribe, spawn points (bed) belong to the tribe, there is shared experience between tribe members, and houses, doors, and storage chests belong to the tribe.

There are distinct advantages to being part of a tribe. Herd of Cats in our case. If only we had more tribe members playing.

Not to mention settling our Server issues. We will need to commit to the same online server. When we switch over we will lose everything we have and start at Level one with no base, dinosaurs, or engrams. Hopefully we will come to some kind of consensus before the game officially leaves the Preview program.

NOTE: picture quality is poor as preview games (like beta games) will not let you upload screenshots or video captures to your Xbox Activity Feed. One of the images was taken by a camera from a quarter size image in the Xbox Image Capture section.

I'm waiting to see if Graybush gets suckered into it and then we can flounder around trying to figure it out.

The building and crafting maybe, but the actual gameplay mechanics boil down to "hit everything".
