Plans for the Zombie Apocalypse

By Blackwalt - Posted on 21 October 2008

Left 4 Dead co-op LAN party – Nov. 21st

As we all know Left 4 Dead will be released November 18th, 2008 and it is primarily built around a 4 player coop mode.

We have pre-organized our four person team of Zombie bait: Blackwalt, Coxxorz, MoriceRevek and Stormblade (remotely).

Our plan, such as it is, is to gather with our supplies and weaponry at Moricerevek's place outside the airport and set up for an entire day of Zombie killing... and being killed.

This involves the four of us taking the day off of work. Yes a vacation day. And meeting at MoriceRevek's shortly after noon. The delay until noon is to allow for time to collect Coxxorz. The usual plan is for Blackwalt to drive to Coxxorz's, load all of Coxxorz's Xbox 360 gear from the front hall into the CR/V and then, and only then, go upstairs to roust him out of bed. Sadly, I can't say that I have never done this before. Usually, Coxxorz regains consciousness about half way to the destination. The shocked where the f**k am I look is priceless. One day I will take a picture.

So. That's us taken care of. What about you?

Well, we really don't care but it has been observed that there are more than 4 players in the clan. So, fine, okay, I get that. It's possible some of you may also want to prepare for the coming Zombie Apocalypse. Fine.

Since Left 4 Dead also supports 4 on 4 versus mode it would make sense to put together a second group of survivors. I am sure we can find four additional Herd of Cats members that want to kill Zombies and MoriceRevek's house seems to be large enough. Assuming that you can make it to Revek's through the Zombie horde. We might even want a spare. This could be you Q-Bert! We will stick you out on the back deck until required. Works for me.

A second team of four almost seems logical.

Time to kick ass and take names

So, your Zombie Apocalypse Mission is to help put together a second team of survivors for the upcoming Left 4 Dead LAN Party. Check it out below. I have already filled in two spots for you. How easy is that!

Simple rules. Must be prepared to take the day (or half day) off. Must purchase or rent a copy of Left 4 Dead. Must own an Xbox 360 and be prepared to haul it and the appropriate monitor/TV to MoriceRevek's. Did I miss anything?

As a final omen that the Zombie Apocalypse is coming Ice has just committed to the second foursome...

First Four Cats of the Apocalypse:
    1. Blackwalt
    2. Coxxorz
    3. MoriceRevek
    4. Stormblade (Yes, remotely)

Second Four Cats of the Apocalypse:

    1. Hardwood (not fully committed although he should be)
    2. Ice (very tentatively)
    3. TBA
    4. TBA

Additional Notes:

We will probably start up a separate Left 4 Dead page (already started) to keep track of all of our indepth and extremely complicated plans for staving off the Zombie Apocalypse. Yes, I know, we're doomed.

Doomed I tell ya, doomed.

As this post was well commented on, and made the list as one of the most read articles of the month, everybody got to see the wonderfull poster with our clan names on the various characters. Of course, Blackwalt put me as the cute chick.

Well, today I downloaded the demo of Left 4 Dead. Yipee, I said to myself. I get to see how good the game is.

I start the game, change the sound setting to lower the master volume, then start the single player campaign. During the transition screen, I am presented with the same poster as is the subject of this article, of the game with the 4 protagonists of the story, with the character names on each of the characters, because, you see, even in single player mode, the other 3 characters will be in the game, but will be computer controlled.

So while the game is loading, I pass the time and read the names:

Biker: Francis as himself
Old Guy: Bill as himself
Cubicle Dweller: Louis as himself
Chick: MoriceRevek as Zoey

WTF?!?!?! How the hell did they get their hands on the poster that Blackwalt made?!?!? It took me a few seconds to realize that all they did was randomly assign me to control one of the 4 characters. Everytime you start a single player campaing you are randomly assigned one of the characters. I had a 25% chance of being the chick. 75% of being one of the guys. But no, Blackwalt decided that I was going to be the chick, and there I was: MoriceRevek as Zoey.

DIE BLACKWALT!! DIE!! A Troll, where is your flame thrower? I need to BBQ some Blackwalt.

At least you will be in touch with your feminine like stormblade

At least you will be in touch with your feminine side, like Stormblade.

I am now 100% sure that I will be Zombie killing at the LAN on November 21st.

So put me on Team 2 as the heavy support, because I want a LMG.

(flight aquired)

MauriceRevek's picture

How you can be heavy support with a lite machine gun?

Noir's picture

"Light" Machine Guns are the biggest rapid firing support weapons (capable of highest caliber rounds, except for sniper rifles). Along with rocket and grenade launchers.

There might be a .... Vulcan Cannon, that would be awesome.

To be added to the list of things to bring:

Any undead movies for playing in the background.

- Shawn of the Dead
- Evil Dead
- Army of Darkness
- Gili
- Tomb Raider
- Rise of the Evil Undead Killer Bimbos From Planet Vulvtron

Akuf's picture

Shaun of the dead

Noir's picture

Land of the Dead. Where, like the USA, the Black Zombie organizes the masses.

lol, wonderful.

MILLA!!!!

Noir's picture

I must thoroughly agree with Stormblade again.

RE1 = 7/10, with Milla = 10/10
RE2 = 3/10, with Milla = 10/10
RE3 = 5/10, with Milla = 10/10

Q-Bert's picture

It's Gigli not Gili...

Does each person need their own TV and Xbox? Or is there split screen. How is that going to work?

MauriceRevek's picture

That you are getting your own consol and are planning on joining us?

Everybody has their own console and monitor / tv. Actually, it is the same setup as LAN gaming. GeeGee!

That is how Stormblade will be able to join us from Colorado. Would be difficult for him to play if we had to set up a web cam pointed at the TV and he had to give instructions to another person on what to do with the controller. I think the lag time between command and execution would lead to quick deaths. Could be entertaining though. I suspect that the person controlling his character would suffer from the same difficencies that was coded into the AI for Paintball Extreem, where all the bots would congregate in the corner of a wall and try to run through it.

Makes it very easy to serve up some Blade Flambé à la Storm.

Got your flame thrower Troll?

Noir's picture

Because I am %90 sure I'll be there.

MauriceRevek's picture

Possibly convince one of the people who have 2 to bring a spare unit. Provided it will not RRoD as soon as it is returned.

We can also rent a unit. Q-Bert has dual monitors, so he can bring both.

If that does not work, you can still come over. There is a Wii, and we can do a rotation.

Noir's picture

If none of the multi Xbox people want to bring another one over for the night. I won't mind renting a box for the day.

Can I use your 24" monitor if I beat you in Guitar Hero? Instead of using Q-berts pathetic 17" monitor.

Coxxorz's picture

You can check out the Superstore when you're in town, and pick up a 360 Arcade for $177 (free bag of Mandarins with $150 purchase), then apparently you can register to receive a FREE 20GB hard drive from Microsoft!

No ees habla Angleesh

Noir's picture

Do you have two guitars? Although we can just trade off and see who does the best on a particular song.

Blackwalt's picture

For several reasons:

  1. It doesn't like Revek's place. It cost me $140 bucks to fix it after it's last visit. Thanks Revek.

  • I will be carrying enough stuff
  • It is our primary DVD/media player and I don't want to short Rolly/Guba on my night out.
  • Stormblade's picture

    You will be assimilated!

    Noir's picture

I use to play tons of original Xbox way back in the day. I'd have huge LANs of Halo several times a month.

    Swag's picture

Unless I can't rent the game.....

Also, will I need some network cable? I should have everything else that I need.

    Coxxorz's picture

Just kidding, I'll bring my wiring kit.

    Akuf's picture

....I could take a day off...
    Bastards!

    Stormblade's picture

    Get on it.

    MauriceRevek's picture

Me Too please! And a Zombie Plush!

    Blackwalt's picture

This is what I have so far and what I will be using.

This is for use with the Nyko Gameface. If you don't already have one they are getting hard to find. I think that Nyko has stopped making them. I bought mine at EB Games but the best place to find them (if they still have them in stock) is Blockbuster.

Let me know if you want a copy and I will email you a 8.5"x14" PDF document fitted to the provided templates.

    Blackwalt's picture

Another L4D Faceplate. Send me an email if you want a copy.

    Stormblade's picture

I thought I already made that clear.
