New guitar, same lack of talent
Now I had hoped that the new guitar and the switch to the proper frets would go well. It didn't.
It went poorly.
Mind you, I was trying an additional change based on IGN's strategy guide:
- Your pointer finger may instinctively head for the green button, but you must resist that temptation! Ideally, your four fingers will be placed like so: pointer on the red, middle on the yellow, ring on the blue, and pinkie on the orange. To hit the green notes, you'll slide your pointer upward on the fret board, and return it to the red button afterward.
Let's just say I've played better.
This new "style" will work out better if I eventually want to move up to something challenging. Like medium. I think medium will do.
Playing on easy only requires three frets: green, red and yellow. Moving to medium requires four frets adding blue and hard adds orange. Not sure what expert adds as I have run out of frets and can't find a sixth colour...
So on easy three frets, three fingers. Seems easy enough but theoretically I understand IGN's point and I am trying to make a full switchover to my pointer finger working both green and red. With decidedly mixed success. Decidedly.
Guba took one evening to make the switchover successfully so I am going to try to stick it out. I suspect I will get there eventually. It's just that I am not there yet. And by not there I mean I am really not there...
For now I think I will continue to blame the new guitar. That's obviously the problem, isn't it?

... when you whack your finger with it, aren't you.
In the wise words of a little green dude: You must unlearn what you have learned. Yes the shift to RYBO is difficult, but it is a prerequisite before advancing to HARD difficulty.
However.. if you plan on never advancing beyond MEDIUM then forget the index-on-red.
I still haven't mastered the game to the point where I can survive guitar on HARD. However, most HARD bass lines are within reach.
