His internet provider seems to be on fire
I received this email from him last night at 3:45 AM.
- Played some CoD4 with Graybush/Hardwood.
Went back to CodWaW for some double-points goodness after they logged off, until I got disconnected. No internet at all. Cracked open my USB modem, called Magma for dialup number. Internet slow. ISP site offline. Apparently fire at their headquarters in TO.
How do I know? Forum posts on DSLreports indicate:
- Guy monitoring live fire department feed indicates six fire engines dispatched to that location, alarm level 2: www.toronto.ca/fire/cadinfo/livecad.htm
- Colocation customer reports servers on the same floor inaccessible
- Guy notices huge dip in traffic on "Torix graphs" www.torix.net/stats.php
- Guy who just left the building when the alarm went off SMS's that he saw/smelled smoke search.twitter.com/search?q=%23151fire
- Another guy with machines on 6th floor showing 1 degree C increase in their operating temp.
- Man on the scene posts there's a lot of people on the street reconfiguring their servers via Blackberry and iPhone
Gotta love nerds!

Looks like they came back online around 7-8 this morning. Good thing I didn't stay up!
According to an admin post on their forum last night, a UPS pretty much exploded and started the fire. I'll try to find out the brand.
Ironically, now that everything is back up again, the forums at DSLReports (where I got all this information) is now inaccessible.
