Now its official - Half-pint is living on borrowed time
It only seemed that way up until now
So yesterday Half-pint was the healthiest cat that a vet had ever seen with
feline immunodeficiency virus, today he is the healthiest cat that a vet had ever seen with feline leukemia.
Most of you are familiar with Half-pint's medical history: The Tim Taylor medical file and the partial injury list. Just between you and I the Vet hadn't read the entire file in time for our appointment.
The only symptom that Half-pint is exhibiting is his unwillingness to eat. This just set off alarms with anyone who knew him, as well it should have.
Turns out we didn't need to schedule a biopsy as previously discussed because he failed his blood test. And he failed it with flying colours. No red blood cells, no white blood cells, and another fairly important level on which he didn't even register.
Essentially he has nothing left in his immune system to fight off anything. The vet didn't tell us not to have the biopsy but mentioned there was a significant chance he would not wake up from the anesthesia.
Antibiotics and painkillers are his prescription for now and most likely for a long as he is with us. I expect our biggest problem will come when Half-pint discovers he just became an indoor cat. This will not go over well.
He is already started the Antibiotics and we pickup the painkillers tomorrow. The vet has scheduled a follow up appointment in two weeks. This seems like good news but came with the warning that he can decline rapidly at any time.
We are planning on enjoying the time we have left with him and on keeping him with us as long as he is comfortable and in the Vet's word "as long as he is doing the cat things that he normally does." That's a pretty substantial range Ms. Vet, a pretty substantial range.

that cats break, having seen it often enough. Still, Half-Pint has always seemed indestructible. I wouldn't put it past him to survive for a while yet, just because he's as stubborn as his
ownerservant.Just in case though, I'll come by for a visit. This is, if Blackwalt lets me in ...

Not to question your choice of replacement vet so soon, but are you sure they took a sample of the correct vital fluid?
It was a second hand report.
He still failed the blood test and he still has a hard mass on his right jaw.

He is still alive, in the netherworld that he went back to anyway.
