The first upcoming game mentioned on HerdofCats - two years ago

This is me catching up

Hmmm.... that's a little graphic isn't it?Hmmm.... that's a little graphic isn't it?So you may have heard that HerdofCats.ca turned two. And you may remember the distinct lack of response from all of the inmates.

The admins themselves have also been distracted by several issues: the redesign, Half-pint's health, Batman, posts on Q-Bert's bathroom experience and the Official Herd of Cats 2nd Anniversary / Site Redesign / Save-the-Mascot / Just Because... Contest.

But here, right here, I am starting with some of the 2 years stories that I had planned. Please note the pathetic attempt at a 2 years old seal. I will attach that to any story specifically meant to be a HoC 2 year story. And probably to some others totally at random. We are who we are.

Node 17 (this story is node 3363) on HerdofCats.ca was a story about an upcoming game with 4 player coop. And 4 player coop is one of our favourite things:

Borderlands will ship with four player online co-op.

Our story was published on August 16, 2007 and Borderlands will launch October 20th, 2009. I plan on being in line on launch day. I like this game so much that I almost posted a story when they announced the launch date, I almost posted a story when they displayed their final box art and I almost posted a story when they changed their artistic style. Okay, fine, maybe I'll only almost buy it on launch day...

3,166,880!3,166,880!No seriously, if the initial reviews are strong I will be buying it right away. Of course, I will be spending all of my playing time designing the perfect shotgun, one of the 3,166,880 weapons has to be the one. And then testing it. On one of you. Possibly.

From the Borderlands website:

Borderlands™ sends up to four co-op players to the harsh frontier planet Pandora in search of a mysterious Alien Vault legend. Featuring a unique First Person Roleplaying Shooter gameplay, you'll customize your character as you explore and battle enemies in frantic FPS combat. And what would a Roleplaying Shooter be without loot?

Borderlands'™ groundbreaking content generation system creates a near-endless variety of weapon and items to customize your character! Players can join and leave other players' games at any time, or choose to face the challenges of Borderlands™ alone. All these features combine with a deep, rich fiction and a bold art style to create a breathtaking experience that challenges the conventions of modern shooters...

Join me and my shotgun on Pandora (Borderlands' setting) this October 20th. See you there. Hopefully, I'll see you first. No reason.

In six weeks this could be us.: Guess which one is Moricerevek? In six weeks this could be us.: Guess which one is Moricerevek?

So that's it for my first 2 years old story. Hopefully they'll get better. Please feel free to add your own. If you want the "pathetic attempt at a 2 years old seal" send me an email and I'll fire it off.

how this game procedurally generates all the "bazillion" guns that this game claims to have (actually it's more around 3.1 million permutations).

From what little I found out, it seems like it's just the function/ammo/stats of the guns that are different more than the physical models itself. Much the same as in Diablo 2, where you would see the same pole axe but with different stats/magic.

Ok, so I'll pick another number around 3.1 million, like 3,166,880

I am sure that the number on the debug screen was wrong.

"RPG/FPS style gameplay"? From the Brothers in Arms people? No wonder this game was promptly forgotten. I like 4-player co-op as much as the next guy (maybe more than that guy), but how do we know they won't try to sneak some kind of squad control or resource management crap into this version?

Pass.

The developers have stated that is an FPS first and whether you hit something or not is based on your aim and your reaction time, not the hit percentage of your weapon or a dice roll.

Damage however, may be dictated by weapons stats and/or dice rolls...

It has had several obvious comparisons to the way Diablo worked.

I had forgotten about this one. I think I might be getting it now that you mention it, especially if you guys are actually going to play it for more than a month.

I like the new cell-shaded art style.
