To Avatar or not to Avatar
Just getting the idea out there
I'm so prettySo in conversation about the HerdofCats redesign one of the threads that came up was the standardization of user pictures. User pictures is the name Drupal uses for Avatars.
It was suggested that we have everyone use their Xbox Live Avatar. They are easily available from Xbox.com, properly transparent PNG files, and close to the correct size. My demo on the left is half the provided size. They come 150x300 pixels, resized to 75x150 pixels.
I know we have had a lot of fun editting other persons user pictures, and changing your own so I don't really want to take that away. Would standardizing make us look more professional/official or would it steal away our randomness?

Plus my avatar isfine the way it is. I don't need a transparent alpha channel. I'm fine with the way it is, surrounded by an orange box.

If no Avatar exists, then use one from Live.
Like that we can still go in and put a custom one and go back to the live one.
Or a check box that we can say to use Custom or Live.
But Revek's idea is good. I like being able to modify the avatar, but the Live ones have been popping up in a lot of our stuff lately.
