The Design Inspiration provides us with 40 Various Styles Artworks of Lara Croft.

Thank you.

Lara has always been popular and famous, for her turquoise sleeveless shirt, light brown shorts, calf-high boots and fingerless gloves. She became even more famous after the character was played by Angelina Jolie in the two featured films, this time for her lips. The following are some illustrations featuring Lara. Let’s see what this smokey hot lady is like in the artists’ eyes. Check it out!

What? It's gaming related!

Swag's picture

I'd like to see a main female game character that isn't overly sexualized.

Believe it or not.

There really is no hope for you, is there?

that this wasn't the place for a serious comment.

So what if I prefer realistic looking women, or better yet real ones. But if you guys prefer fake, disproportionate, CG enhanced looking ones then good for you.

Don't be angry at us. If you want a serious discussion about this, then let's have it:

It depends on what you mean by realistic-looking. Art is not meant to be realistic in most of its forms. It is mostly meant as a metaphor or a way to elicit emotions from the onlooker. One can argue that with the current state of perfection-demanding-California-residing-boob-enlarging society and media right now, the concept of realistic-looking females is closer to the art linked-to than, say, The Naked Woman by Pablo Picasso.

It's true that a lot of contemporary drawings and animation represent the female form with impossibly large hips and impressive bosoms, but they represent the male form with as much inane characteristics too.

If you want realistic-looking female forms represented around you, may I suggest you cease looking at any bus-stop advertising, fashion magazine ad, game hero depictions (even in classical art), and any manga-based animation... Go hang out on Flickr. I bet if you take a random sampling of Flickr, you will notice that the average female form you will sample will differ from what you would consider "realistic". Photographers tend to approach their pictures as art and will not limit themselves to simple form. They will also embellish, distort, and otherwise modify "reality" to also present metaphor or solicit strong emotions.

We live 24/7 with reality. We are attracted to anything that is different from this reality. Mix that up with the fact that all males from all ages and cultures have always fixated on breasts, for obvious reasons, and you get the reality that all female archetypes have huge knockers; from thousand-year old goddess statues, to Hollywood frumpets.

Are you saying that I should just accept that women will be depicted this way in games simply because it's always been that way as an art form?

And I also don't always want to see women, whether they are exaggerated or not, dressed or depicted like sluts. There are exceptions, such as Alyx from Half-Life 2, but this is typically contrasted with characters like Ivy from Soul Caliber. Granted that does fit the game's style, but still.

I will have more to say on this in a upcoming thread that I am working on...so stay tuned!

Note: I wrote a lengthy reply but it got deleted, so this was the best that I could do.

Nice guns.

A pic of a couple of my friends that were dressed up like Laura Croft.

But I am not going to. Could be a problem for some members of HoC if they don't have screen cleaner.
