The Coxxorz Random Black Friday Deals of the Day

By Coxxorz - Posted on 27 November 2009

More and more Canadian retailers are jumping on the Black Friday shopping band wagon, but this year seems particularly insane.

Maybe it's the economy, or maybe it's because all the major chains in Canada are owned by Americans. Who knows! But the idea of "Black Friday" seems to finally be taking hold here. All I know is that this year the kids were very excited, and demanded we set up the Black Friday tree early, and decorate it with electronics. The weather was very mild, so after Pizza we were able to put up strings of Gift Cards around the house and surrounding shrubbery. Then it was off to line up at the local big box store. The crowds were intense, but we managed to fight our way through to get our traditional photo with Store Manager! Everyone was zonked after that, and being full of Black Friday candies, the kids went to bed without a fuss. I started to read them the classic Scanning Code of Practice, but after one paragraph they were fast asleep. Even after all that there was still some money left, so the wife and I curled up with a cup of hot CEO Spit and burned the rest of it in the fireplace.

Take that, recession.

Now here are some random items that may or may not be available:

Wal*Mart
Notice how the dash in their name has been replaced by the American star? Hunh.

  • Xbox 360 Arcade: $149
  • NHL 10 (all consoles): $40

Amazon.ca
They're finally selling electronics on the Canadian site!

Steam
That would be the popular download and DRM nexus, for the uninitiated.

Toys 'R' Us
I always forget they sell games and stuff. Except last week.

  • Buy between $39.99 and $74.97 worth of games and save $10.†
  • Buy between $74.98 and $99.97 worth of games and save $20.†
  • Buy over $99.98 worth of games and save $30.†
†Not valid for individual games over $89.99

Old Navy
Yes, you read that right. Not the traditional place for gaming deals.

  • Free Lego Rock Band with $20 purchase on Saturday. Limited quantities.

Future Shop
These may also be available at Best Buy (same company):

Best Buy
Yay! Another contender enters the ring...

Disney Store
Why not. They make games, right?

  • Get 20% off purchases made before 10 a.m. Obviously they're opening early.

Costco
This is not for sure yet...

  • Xbox 360 PRO (60GB HD, 2 controllers): $199 (unconfirmed)

Miscellaneous

More deals as I find them!

EDIT: I have no idea what this thing is, it followed me home from Future Shop.

I don't know if the Microsoft store ships to Canada so this may be US only. Confirmed as US only. So this is a deal for A Troll...

This Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console doesn't look like a deal until you read the fine print...

Now when you buy this Xbox console, you'll get a great bonus: two free games, and a free Xbox LIVE 3-month Gold Card. Get Assassins Creed 2 plus Dragon Age Origins. Then, take your gameplay to the next level and chat, compete and play for 3 months with the Xbox Live Gold Card at no additional cost. Add this Xbox and all three other items to your shopping cart to see this offer. But hurry, this deal won't last!

Buy this Xbox console and save $50 on Beatles Rock Band Special Value Bundle. Just add both items to your cart to see the discount.

Including two $69 games and a $19 card. Not bad as throw ins.

I believe this was already on last week during the Halo Edition Fiasco, but it's worth mentioning now with all the attention to deals lately. Toys R Us is offering $10, $20 and $30 off video games, depending how much you buy. See deals post above for details.

As if sensing a disturbance in The Force, Best Buy has stepped up with their own Xbox 360 deal. This time it's an Xbox 360 Arcade with a free copy of Fable 2. The deal is good thru Sunday, so act now before everywhere else sells out (or people realize this is slightly better than the Wal Mart deal).

Fable must be added to the cart separately, but there is a link on the page.

*UPDATE to the update: Since the Arcade is $199 again at Future Shop, price match there to get it for $149 AND Fable.

Future Shop and Best Buy are both offering the Sling media "SlingCatcher" Media Player (model SC100-140) for $156 off, bringing it down to just $100.

To recap, this little dealie not only lets you watch your various video shit on your TV, you can watch & control them on the road using the internet. You can also connect an external USB device apparently.

Found an interesting one: the Microsoft Wireless Controller bundled with Grand Theft Auto 4 for $59.99. It's interesting because it doesn't look like a sale price, and that's the price of a wireless controller by itself. Good deal if you have a cracked game case and are looking for a free replacement. And a coaster.

Do what aku said: use it for trade in. There must still be people who want to play it. I think.

If you use this promo, it's still one of the qualifying titles, even though it's been taken off the list. They are honouring the original terms, god bless them. You just need to find one more.
