Irrational Games tried to pitch a Zombie game in 2005
And no one cared. The full story of Division 9 is available at GameInformer. And there's even a trailer after the break.
- “I remember going around pitching it and the person would be ‘Zombies? Who wants to play a zombie game?’” remembers Levine. Joe McDonagh, Irrational’s director of creative development, adds with a laugh: “Someone said to me, ‘We don’t think zombies will be big in 2005.’”
Who wants a Zombie game? We do! But I do have to ask... would you have been interested in a Zombie game in 2005?

And the reason that you see the guy issuing commands so often is that this is basically a SWAT 4 mod (uses the same engine). That's also why he walks so slowly (would you walk slowly if zombies were chasing you?) and that the particle effects are barely existent.
Funny thing is that it still looks better than Left 4 Dead.
In related news, 2K Boston has reclaimed the Irrational Games Name after over 2 years of getting rid of it. They were the makers of the incredible System Shock 2!
Except slower and browner.
It's interesting that they conceived it as a single player game. I guess they didn't expect two people would want to play it, let alone four.
But it's easy to make yourself look awesome in hindsight. I'd like to see some of their other failures. I guarantee they truly ARE crap, and outnumber the wins by a fair margin.
Like ultimate or extreme paintball?
If you owned both.
Looks like it had potental, although it looks like he had to give orders about every 5 feet to his 2 followers.
Between that and the way we play is we don't obey anyone's orders.
Ever.
