Blackwalt however? Full steam ahead!
So Coxxorz and I found ourselves in EBgames. Not that unusual a circumstance I admit, but this day? This day turned out to be slightly different.
Coxxorz is always the one looking for a deal but I was the one that spotted a potential deal standing in EBgames.
A guy in front of us was trading in three games toward something new. And one of them was a game I was interested in.
You can see where this is going, can't you?
- Blackwalt: "I'm going to offer that guy cash for his game."
Coxxorz: "You can't do that, he's trading it in."
Blackwalt: "Wait a sec. He's only been offered $30 for it, I only have twenties. Do you have $15?"
Coxxorz: "Well... yes, but..."
Blackwalt: "Hand it over, quick"
Coxxorz: "I can't believe you're doing this... The EBGames guy is right there..."
Blackwalt: "What will he care? Here goes."
...
Blackwalt (to stranger): "Excuse me, if you are trading in that game anyway, I'll give you $35 for it," looking at Ebgames clerk, "If you don't mind?"
EBgames guy: "No. More money for him, if he wants..."
Stranger: "Sure, I'll take $5 bucks more."
Blackwalt: "Okay then," and trades $35 cash for Dragon Age: Origins (no manual, which I knew about) and returns to Coxxorz.
Blackwalt (to Coxxorz): "See. Everyone's happy"
Coxxorz: "well, everyone's happy but the EBGames guy," then looks at a $64.99 used copy of Dragon Age: Origins, "you just got that for $35!"
Blackwalt: "He (the Ebgames guy) didn't mind and I gave him the chance to stop it. He's not the manager or owner so I don't think he cares. I probably just saved him some paperwork."
...
And that's how I got a copy of a $70 game for $35 with the added bonus of screwing EBgames in a small way. It's always pissed me off how little they offer for their trade-ins. Of course, if it really bothered me I would have offered the guy more money but since Coxxorz had the smaller bills anyway and, as I pointed out to Coxxorz, if the game is scratched or broken I really have no recourse and would be out $35.
This almost fell apart when we thought he was doing a 3 for 1 trade-in deal but it turned out he was doing a straight trade which worked out for us.
Coxxorz was amazed that I did this and I was amazed that Coxxorz had never thought about it. I'd always considered the possibility but had never been in the position to do it. There was only one EBgames staff on duty and the store wasn't busy. More importantly, I was interested in the game. Interested but not prepared to pay full price.
As for the game, Dragon Age: Origins, RPGs are not really my favourite (I never really got that far into Mass Effect despite the deal I got for it. But I figured with the fantasy setting and the newer engine I might enjoy Dragon Age: Origins. If I didn't like it I can sell it on to one of our clan members who likes RPGs. For $40.
So Swag...
...do you think Stormblade will give me $40 for Dragon Age: Origins?
Well yes, yes he will. And he even knows the full story. I probably could have got $50 if I had lied about it. He's even prepared to wait a while in case I end up enjoying the game. I guess it would only be fair to decrease the price the more I play it, but since he's willing to pay the $40 bucks anyway...
Oh, I paid back Coxxorz his $15, by the way.

as to why I was mentioned in this story. Do I think Stormblade will give you 40$ for it? Sure, I guess.
If you think I'd be interested in it, based on people spying on what games I am playing (Oblivion), then the answer is no. I'm really not interested in that one. And I'm still waiting for Coxxorz to Coxxorzize this for me. I'm not getting it at launch so he has time!
Irony? Humour? Spite? Who knows?
$110 not cheap enough for you?
I hate seeing kids and their moms getting screwed on trade-ins because they can't think of anywhere else to go.
I just think of it as a Squeaker Tax, and then I'm okay with it.
