Battlefield Bad Company 2 question

By Blackwalt - Posted on 04 February 2010

So as a Clan...

Are we looking at getting this game? Has anyone (Coxxorz?) seen a deal?

The pre-order (limited edition) offers additional weapons but they also have the much despised early access to one of their multi-player modes (Similar to Army of Two: the 40th Day).

The North American console versions of DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are saddled with an unusual multiplayer restriction: for the first month following the game's release, only those who preordered the game from GameStop will have access to the game's "Squad Rush" multiplayer mode.

The mode is an objective-based battle between two teams of four players each. Those with preorder-based access will also be able to invite their friends to play with them throughout the 30-day exclusivity period.

So I am not sure of the Clan interest level for this game and thought I would ask for feedback from everyone through comments. I seem to remember a lot of us putting time into Bad Company 1 and it doesn't look like a busy season for other interesting game releases.

do we all make an effort to pre-order it to have immediate access to the additional multi-player mode? (Only a couple of us really need it) Then have a LAN party?
or... do we wait a month after release until the multi-player mode is accessible for everyone, hoping for a deal? And then have a LAN party?
or... give it up and wait for Saint's Row 3 release in 2012?

PS: The limited Edition comes with six early unlocks. 4 vehicles and 2 weapons:

4 x Vehicle Warfare Unlocks
• Improved Vehicle Armor
• Vehicle Alternate Fire
• Vehicle Motion Sensor
• Tracer Dart Pistol
2 x Classic Battlefield 1943 Weapons
• M1A1 Submachine Gun
• M1911 Pistol

The release date for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is March 2nd and early previews and feedback is positive. There is a Multiplayer Demo available now on Xbox Live. Download it and try it out.

From the Official website:

Players can also compete in 4-player teams in 2 exclusive squad-only game modes, fighting together to unlock exclusive team awards and achievements. Spawn on your squad to get straight into the action and use gadgets such as the tracer dart in conjunction with the RPG to devastating effect. Excellence in the battlefield is rewarded with an extensive range of pins, insignias and stars to unlock along with 50 dedicated ranks to achieve. Variety also extends into the range of customizable kits weapons and vehicles available. With 4 distinct character classes, dozens of weapons, several gadgets and specializations, players have over 15,000 kit variations to discover and master. Players will be able to fine-tune their preferred fighting style to give them the edge in combat.

All of these features combine to deliver spectacular and unpredictable action moments found nowhere else in a modern warfare experience. The game also sees the return of the "B" Company squad in a more mature and intense single player experience where the stakes are higher than ever.

and thought that it was pretty good. Reminded me of Battlefield 1943 (uses the same game engine). Me and Coxxorz should try it out tonight too.

I would vote to wait a bit and hopefully get a deal, and I might consider getting it.

The internet out here isn't as good as in Vanier.

In your response please let me know if you owned Bad Company 1 and/or if you tried the Bad Company 2 demo.

Just for additional fuel on the fire info.

I owned and enjoyed Bad Company 1 but have yet to try the demo.

Is that in one month, your "investment" is moot.

That and you are necessarily tied to one of the few stores offering preorders, which limits your chances of getting a good deal.

If you want the multi-player unlocked.

They are the only dealer with that available. So I wasn't expecting a deal.

Although they only offer the LE edition right now. For a limited time, you can get the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Limited Edition for the same price as the regular edition. But note that they don't even offer the regular edition.

The best deal I've seen is a 2-for-1 trade deal at Best Buy, but our local stores don't do trade-ins yet.

I'll go with the group decision on this one.
