Sony tells PS3 owners to stop playing IMMEDIATELY
Sony on Monday advised owners of the older version of the Playstation 3 not to use their console until they can fix a problem with the clock system.
A glitch as it rolled over from Feb 28 to March 1 has left many unable to connect to the internet or even play games offline. Some have even reported losing previously earned trophies.
From the Citizen article:
"if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data."
But if you're thinking of just settling down to watch a nice movie instead, think again: some users are reporting that they can't access streaming videos, or rentals downloaded from Netflix. In this case, we recommend our Southern neighbours re-watch their recordings of Sunday's hockey game instead. No reason.

...like being guaranteed to RROD after opening the box...just saying...
But "just saying" ignores the fact that not all of the RRODs occurred at the SAME time.
All (non-slim) PS3s failed at the SAME time!
All of them.
What that did to their defective rate percentages....
Not even Microsoft has managed to make ALL their consoles fail yet.
Soon, though.
Or having your car accelerate when you hit the brakes.
