Just Cause 2 Diaries: Day 1
Just Cause
This isn't my first day with Just Cause 2, it's just the first day I chose to write something about it.
Let's just get this out of the way first to keep Swag from complaining.
There! You happy? It gets dinged for no multi-player. It gets bonuses for massive open world where you can blow anything up, drive anything, fly anywhere. If you see it, you can go to it. And then blow it up. Awesome.
Did I say massive? I've given up walking anywhere... or swinging... or driving... or boating... if I can't fly I call for an airlift. It costs money but it beats walking... or whatever.
Even flying it takes me 10-20 minutes to get anywhere. That's as the crow flys. Unfortunately I never make it anywhere as I keep seeing something interesting that I want to look at and land. Sometimes I land well but mostly I need a new helicopter or plane.
See that image on the right? Anywhere you see there you can fly to. Towers in the top right? A casino – 100% complete, buildings below me? Undiscovered Civilian town – 0% complete, light house in the bottom right – been there.
The Casino? I didn't get there during this flight. Just seconds after taking this photo two Gatling guns from another helicopter blew into to me from the right. I have a picture but it's blurrier than normal. I won that fight but my smoking helicopter turned out to be susceptible to a poor landing. Started over.
Okay fine. Here's the blurry picture of my helicopter being shot up. Happy now?
Flew back to Casino, grappled to bridge over waterfall to get a collectible. Let go ("B") instead of jumping ("A"), muffed the recovery and fell into the waterfall. Took me 60 seconds to fall down the waterfall (pretty) but I didn't survive it. Next time though, next time I managed to destroy and collect everything available in the Casino town. 100% complete.
The virtual island(s) of Panau comprise of 1,000 square kilomters with 360 locations that you can visit and 2,700 collectibles scattered throughout the islands. Coxxorz would love that. Shiney things all over to collect. He'd never come back out of the jungle. Maybe we had better not feed his habit.
The entire map of Panau has just been made available on the Just Cause 2 official web site. I know, at this point I am just throwing random things in for length.

Wait... did you say collectible and shiney?
Of Saints Row II, but without the comedy, co-opy, cartoony. After playing so much Borderlands and Saints-Row II, not sure if I like these more realistic game types anymore vs the more cartoony approach. Maybe that should be our next survey. How much realism to you like in your game? Photo quality landscape, realistic physics, shadecell etc...
I did find the mile high club pretty fast.
Still a fun game though. Need to find the unlimited ammo upgrade.
