There should be a chat feature on the site for those online. At least, I think it would be cool.

Yeah, there might be a drupal chat module available. If not, I have already tested web-based chat systems for other clients. They take a bit of effort to setup :-(

I tried both BuddyChat and Chatroom, just now.
BuddyChat is not supported in the Drupal version we run, and there is a bug in Drupal-5.2 that prevents the Chatroom module to function at all.

And the author is quite pissed at this: http://drupal.org/node/134659 (check comment #13)

So, my next step is to try Java-IRC.

The "one line of code" they refer to in that related article is already in Drupal-5.2 and doesn't fix the problem. The author confirms it.
