Blackwalt Basement Update

By Blackwalt - Posted on 23 November 2010

And Guba's too as I am constantly reminded

So Saturday left us in a state of mystery with us not knowing the source of the basement leak.

Led by Guba on Sunday morning Blackwalt went intrepidly into his (our) basement to attempt to track down the source of the HoC Amazon Trickle.

And we did...

The pipes may be calling: but they sure aren't connected. The pipes may be calling: but they sure aren't connected.

And we knew what was at fault. A recent furnace repair visit to fix a clogged drainage pipe. The clog had been removed but apparently a step was missed in the reassembly process.

Here are some additional photos of the mess...

So a few things to note.

The biggest disaster here was having to clean out the basement. We lost very little as almost everything was in plastic tubs or rubbermaid containers. All things considered, we got off lightly other than the hassle.

Our insurance is doing everything as we called them before our furnace guys. Our furnace guys have been in, accepted that they made a mistake and fixed the pipes. Their insurance will most likely be picking up the tab. And my deductible. They are also refunding our payments – although we haven't seen anything yet.

The contractors showed up and removed the dry wall, the concrete board, packed up and moved shelves out of the way, steam cleaned the carpets, and put antimicrobials over everything that was remotely damp.

They left us with two industrial dehumidifiers and three industrial fans.

Next week they return to fix the drywall and replace everything.

All is not well though:

Microsoft's recommendation on required space for the Kinect:

    Room To Play

Kinect needs to see you in your entirety. That means head to toes. So if you’re playing alone, we recommend standing six feet away from the sensor. For two players, you both should be at least eight feet away*. This will allow the Kinect sensor to see you the best and provide the most accurate gameplay.

And it gets worse. Much worse...

That open pipe is one that goes to the weeping system, and not sewer.

The Swag Lan graphic was eerily prescient.

I would even go so far as to say that Swag jinxed it!
