RROD for fungster....
On Sundays Fungster sometimes comes to my place for a BBQ.
Small talk happens...
Dialog may not be accurate
Fungster: Was thinking about getting the 4GB slim but I think I am still ok for RROD. I will just wait in case the price drops by christmas season. I bought Portal 2 I should head home so we can play online...
Me: Ok... text me when you are online..
Fungster calls: I am home let's start...
Me: Ok you host..
Game starts....
On my screen: Gesture... Freezes... disconnected from server error....
Fungster calls: Black screen I don't know what happened...
Me: try it again...
Game starts
We get past the gesture
Fungster picks his favorite animal
I pick the element on the periodic table... Freezes... disconnected from server...
Fungster calls: F*CK RROD!!
Me: LMFAO!!! man talk about karma...

I can't remember when exactly I bought my Elite. So crossing my fingers when I login to Xbox.com.
It turn out I purchased my unit on June 8, 2008. So RROD is covered until June 8, 2011.
Aku, that's right, talking about Karma! RROD on May 8, 2011 (exactly 1 month before expired). Kind of a good thing, can't complain about it!
But don't be waiting until Xmas for a price drop. The 4GB Slim is still on sale at EB Games for $129, and they are supposed to be getting some in stock again this week. Or if you want to upgrade your hard drive at the same time, trade your old console for $100 off any Slim bundle! But chances are you won't get it back from MS in time, and your chances of them not checking for RROD are about 50/50.
Also Future Shop and Best Buy have the 4GB Slim on sale for $149. Possibly even Wal Mart.
Update: $127.97 at Costco now.
If RROD doesn't happened 100% on power up(just one time so far) and I ship it to MS, will MS send it back and said it is not really a RROD? then the coverage expired in a month.
Asked by RROD newbie.
Not entirely sure. Mine did a similar thing where it boot up then RROD after a couple of minutes. But then it was RROD right from bootup. I would suggest letting run maybe? To see if the RROD becomes constant.
I don't think they test them. After the first 10,000 or so they just started replacing them automatically.
They know how flaky the boxes are. They just replace them.
But if it's not 100% RROD yet, STOP TURNING IT ON! You could still trade it in to EB games for $100 off a new system without having to send it in for repairs first!
