New progress, more photos inside!
Second sealing with puzzle foam:
Third sealing/detailed with puzzle foam
I have decided to remove the "top portion" of my original design, as you can see it looks a little more symmetric:

I have been working on the Torso Armour and some detailing on the Lancer.
I will post more pics hopefully on Sunday. Waiting for some stuff to dry before posting.
I will be testing paints tonight to see which type works best.
Will there be a chainsaw, or is it the retro (bayonet) version?
Chainsaw
Won't be a real chainsaw obviously, well as you all know, probably not a good idea to have one in my hands. ;)
It won't look exactly like Blackwalt's bought one, but at least I can say I made this.
Actually working on the chainsaw tonight.
Forgot to ask
Why is this fascinating? That you are witnessing the geeky cosplay version of Aku?
:)
It is always interesting to see how people put together their gaming-related costumes/accessories/fan art, but doubly so when it originates here, on our site.
Now someone needs to make a home-made Gears of War 3 version Lancer for a photo shoot. And also a Cole costume.
Keep the pics coming!
Pics will keep coming as progress... progresses.
Social Media girl 1 is making this costume: http://www.meagan-marie.com/?p=2303
I am helping her out with it.
GoW3 Lancer? as in the "retro" Lancer. If so, I have debated doing that since the Bayonet will be much *easier* to make than the chainsaw. In fact, I started thinking maybe I should. My first attempt at making the chainaw failed as styrofoam didn't agree with me.
I think I may start the Torso Armour tonight at it is the next most difficult part.
I am using this:
http://www.figures.com/forums/news/11004-full-details-marcus-fenix-epic-...
as my template. Thing that sucks is GoW3 is coming out next week. Going to be hard not to play.
Why not make the saw teeth out of something more rubbery and easy to cut? What's that black foamy stuff you're using? Looks flexible.
I was making the "outer" pieces of the chainsaw with the pink insulation styrofoam you see in the picture, which is not as brittle as actual styrofoam. The actual blade was made by a foam board used to make backing for framed pictures amongst other things.
The flexible foam is puzzle flooring foam. It is very flexible and easy to work with. Canadian tire had a sale last week 50% off 4x8 roll ($12.50) so I bought four rolls.
The armour will be completely made out of the puzzle foam. Judging from the pics of the retro lancer I am starting to thing that my model looks more like it.
You can't flatten out the cardboard forms that you use to pour cement posts. That stuff is almost as hard as wood, but with the curve it would make for slightly crooked teeth. Although, depending on how big you make them, and how you cut them, you could make the the teeth offset by having them alternating leaning left and right, which would make the saw that much more vicious.
THe other weapon I was considering making was a missile launcher. And the main part would have been one of those tubes.
If time permits I may even do it.
You must be sniffing or eating way too much glue or pain fumes if you are arguing or eating styrofoam.
WTF??
Anyone else have no idea what he is saying?
My first attempt at making the chainaw failed as styrofoam didn't agree with me.
Ok dumbass...
I knew what you were getting at, just your statement
You must be sniffing or eating way too much glue or pain fumes if you are arguing or eating styrofoam. made absolutely not sense.
Pain fumes? I have had my fair share of pains but none of them have fumes. Except maybe some abdominal pains.
Can one of you create a Gallery/Album or whatever it is called and move the pics into it. I forgot to do so.
That you do not want to make it too realistic so that it resembles a concealed gun. You may want to consider painting it bright pink. This way you could always give it to Stormblade after Holloween.
