You should get the Hardened edition..here's why
I've already pre-ordered my Hardened Edition...but this morning I get an email reaffirming to me why it was a good idea. More specifically, all that you get.
"Boasting multiplayer maps, memberships, in-game unlockables, and a one-of-a-kind book bound by Call of Duty Modern Warfare's untold secrets, the "Hardened Edition" is the definitive experience for the Call of Duty fan. The MW3 Hardened Edition includes a 1-Year Call of Duty Elite membership and Founder status."
1. They have already commented that Elite would cost roughly $50/year...and give you access to all their new DLC. So paying $99 for the Hardened edition works out to being a deal.
2. With Elite, there is online tracking of your status in the COD world...you know that FOUNDER status is going to count for something. Maybe nothing big...but you will get some perks. It says so on the website.
3. If the recent news about the partnership with Pepsico is any sign, they've made it clear that unlockables are something they will sell for money...and the hardened edition has some as well...so if you want to be playing on level ground...you'll want all the unlockables you can get.

Just confirmed today in-store and online.
Trying hard not to rant about how is it even possible to "sell out" of a PRE-order. Fucktards.
But that's assuming you would have paid more than $50 for the basic edition. If not, the $50 yearly membership is a wash. Unless you care about the aforementioned unnamed "perks".
Are you saying the membership also includes the unlockables?
according to the email, yes.
Basic edition will cost you $63. unless you wait for the price to drop or buy used copies. By that time, you'll alreday be pretty far back in unlockables and such anyway, so it wouldn't matter for those players.
No Hardened Edition on Failure Shop/Worst Buy websites.
