Since there already has been chatter about the 720 being released this year.
This weeks XS Cargo flyer has the 250 GB "slim" 360 for $228. So when stuff starts appearing in XS Cargo that usually means one of two things:
1) The manufacturer is clearing them out ASAP
2) They are refurbished, this would usually be indicated on the ad.
However, seeing as how there has never been any consoles for sale at XS Cargo during the life cycle (refurbed or not), this could also be an indicator of what is coming. ie Microsoft is clearing out the old consoles for the new.
That said, I still think it is too soon, perhaps they will announce it E3, build hype for a year then release xmas season 2013?

I stand to lose a boatload of consoles and games and accessories anyway, so what's a few bucks more?

When is the next release of Halo coming out? That could be a good indicator as to when a new x-box would hit the street. They usually coincide its release with an A list exclusive title, no?
Interesting point. They say "Holiday 2012", but that doesn't mean much. And the fact that they avoid talking about graphics on the 360 or anything else console-specific, could be an indicator.
Or much of any info lately.
At the earliest it would be released this winter, but usually they will do a beta for the multiplayer, and I've heard nothing about that.
