UPDATE! EBGames phoned back
––––– UPDATE START ––––––
Remember as I mentioned that I know and like the staff at this EBGames? This demonstrates why.
The EBGames' manager went ahead and phoned around all the other local EBGames stores and found one where a Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Ultimate Edition pre-order had been cancelled. This copy is on hold and the EBGames' manager is driving over to the other store on his day off (he mentioned this) to pick up the extra copy. For me. So yippee! I'll have my copy of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and I will have my awesome USB controlled missile launcher.
So all is ending well as EBGames fixed the problem. Although it was pointed out to me that he could have done all this before phoning me the first time and I never would have been the wiser of any problem. I suspect my appearing in the store at the exact moment the error was discovered may have led to them sharing the problem before they attempted to fix it.
––––– UPDATE END ––––––
––––– Original slightly out of date story begins here. Verbatim. ––––––
I've lost track of how many...
So I'm starting this off with some notes. I know the staff at this EBGames fairly well. They did give me three days warning of my Future disappointment. It was a staff error, not a corporate error. Things were not helped by the holiday Monday.
Anyway...
With the holiday Monday this week EBGames received their Tuesday releases in the Friday shipment. So far, so good. They checked the manifest of the received shipment and signed for it.
This store only received one pre-order of the Ultimate Edition because only one person was crazy enough to want the Nerf style USB controlled missile launcher. Yes. Me. Who did you think?
Today, Saturday, someone at EBGames managed to actually open the boxes that they had already signed for. Any guesses what wasn't in it?
My copy of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier™ the Ultimate Edition.
Not so Ultimate now is it? Well no.
The manager's immediate thought was, "No problem, I'll call on Monday and sort it out." His secondary thought was "Oh wait. Holiday Monday. Whoops."
To be fair, this is the point where he picked up the phone and called me to tell me what had happened. And they were honest about it. Even the staffer who had signed for the box told me that she was the one at fault.
My initial reaction was to cancel the order. Seemed obvious despite how much I liked the missile launcher. However, two things stopped me. One, it was too late to get a pre-order bonus from anywhere else. And two, it was not totally a corporate error. Punishing them for the staffer's mistake did not really get me anywhere. I also didn't see any reason to annoy the staffer for such a minor reason.
I would have been more annoyed if more HoC members were buying the game. I would have been really annoyed if a LAN party had been planned around it.
I will be annoyed if they just hand it over a day late and say "here you go" with no attempt to make up for it. I am expecting some sort of extra bonus item. A shirt, a lanyard, a hat. Something. Something to show that they are sorry. If they do nothing to make up for their mistake then this is the point of cancellation. Sorry awesome USB controlled missile launcher but I have to make some sort of weak-assed stand somewhere.
Or maybe I'll just post story called EBGames fail! to complain about it.
Wah!
I haven't actually decided if the three days notice is a good thing or not. Is it better to have the warning or is it worse to have three days to seeth about it? I'll let you know in three days.
PS- I expect that Coxxorz has already posted a Tuesday night Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Event before he even read this far but since he hasn't bought the game I'm not falling for it.

I just called my store to check, and they said my Ultimate Edition order has been cancelled for some reason.
...cost me extra.
