Xbox 360: Winner of the 2007 console wars?
Kombo has an interesting editorial up stating that the Xbox 360 won the console war in 2007.
Most Console War winners are based on number of Consoles sold, giving the win to the Nintendo Wii.
Kombo looks deeper into total revenue, attachment rate and future potential.
While it believes future potential goes to the PS3 enough of the categories are led by the Xbox 360 to give it the win in 2007.

I think it's about time that this whole discussion comes to a close with a simple statement.
SNES is the Greatest console system ever created
There is one console that was so awesome, you didn't even need to buy games for it: Super Pong.
I had one of these ... for years.
A TRUE gamer would still have theirs. As *I* do.
it's buried in my mother's attic somewhere, with my Apple II collection.
I gotta see that. Maybe we can even play it at our next lan gathering! Pong ladder!
But I have to warn you, it's a hell of a kludge required to hook it up to a 60" Sony HDTV...
and I think the other consoles are a waste of money. Otherwise, I couldn't care less how many of what is sold by who. If I really wanted Blu-ray (or whatever), I could play them on my Mac.
And now, back to the game.
Frankly, I do agree that profit should be used instead of revenue.
One thing I hardly ever hear mentioned is the fact that unlike the Xbox, the Wii sells anywhere in the world. Thats gotta count for something if you have a product that sells just as well in Japan as it does in North America and UK. Sure Xbox sells well in NA and UK, but in Japan ... not so well. Let's be honest, the japanese are some of the greatest gamers too.
I will have to go on the record as saying that PS3 is going to smash Xbox in 2008, and hopefully if Nintendo gets some better 3rd party games out this year they should also do alright. But I truly believe that now that BlueRay has setup shop and the PS3 technology can be produced at a decent price it, PS3 will start picking up some serious momentum. Lets be honest. At this point if I had to pick between PS3 or Xbox I would take the PS3. It's nearly the same price, but with a better GPU, CPU, and Media capabilities.
PS3 has the technology and pure power behind the system. Wii has the innovation and broad playability. Xbox has Xbox live.
But I would never choose one console over another based on tech specs alone. What do your friends play? Where are the best games, appropriate to your age group? Which one is not made by Sony? These should all factor into anyone's buying decision.
Besides, anyone remember the Sega Master System? Technically superior to the Nintendo (NES) in every way. How about Beta?
Revenue is rather irrelevant in terms of a "winner", profit is what matters, yet I see no mention of that. OF COURSE Xbox360 revenue is going to be more than the Wii.
What about the 10million Virtual Console games that were sold by Nintendo? Where's the mention of that?
While Nintendo has traditionally had poor 3rd party support, many developers (such as EA, who have publicly admitted that it was a mistake going with the PS3 over the Wii) have seriously considered the Wii (of couse, because this happened only recently, most of these games are not out yet). As an example, Steven Spielberg and EA have announced a Wii game called 'Boom Blox' (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=17259).
And now that Blue-ray is gaining momentum, Microsoft has cut the price of their HD-DVD player by 50$ (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=17267). I also noted on this very site that microsoft, for the first time ever, has actually made a profit on the Xbox 360 console.
As a final note, the article doesn't seem to consider the Nintendo DS, the true console (albeit, mobile) leader.

I don't care enough about who's "winning" to even get warm. If only the Blu-Ray fanboys felt the same way...
