Sony, Sony, Sony
For a company that is located in Japan one would think they can get some simple Math right. I could understand it if it was Microsoft, since americans have no education, but certainly not the mighty japenese.
I am speaking about PS3's controller, called the SixAxis. It has always puzzled me as to WHY they call it that, and to this day I still can't understand it. Therefore, I will ask the combined power of the Herd to help solve this riddle.
I am pretty good with Math and I know there are two Math Majors on this site.
I know it has to do with the tilting of the controller. So let us count the axii:
1) The controller moves up or down: that would be the z-axis.
2) The controller moves left or right: that would be the x-axis.
3) The controller moves towards you or away from you: that would be the y-axis.
uhhm, thats it. That covers the 3D Cartesian coordinate system we live in. So where are the other 3 axii Sony speaks of?

That's the first rule of real estate? Isn't it?
You can move back and forth on each access for 3 axes.
you can also rotate around the 3 axes.
Total of six.
Although, technically, not 6 axes, just different movement along 3 axes.
I think marketing may have been involved.
Time, Money and Frustration
Time = How long you've waited to get vibration feedback back
Money = How much you've spent on controllers that don't have it
Frustration = Time x Money, just trying to get back to what they should have included free in the first place.
That they are counting the tumb sticks 3 (axises? axi?). So 2 times 3 = 6 (plural version of axis).
I endorse this calculation. And the grammer (sp)?
"The SIXAXIS controller is currently being phased out, and the DualShock 3 is the new official controller.[4] The SIXAXIS is no longer being produced, and will not be available after supplies sell out, likely by summer 2008."
The dual shock still has the 6 axii motion control.
