Apple announces iPhone 4 antenna fix

By Coxxorz - Posted on 16 July 2010

In a press conference at their Cupertino, California campus today, Apple announced their plan to mitigate concerns reported by a number of users regarding signal strength when the iPhone 4 is held a certain way.

In a departure from their nonchalant "don't hold it that way" attitude of just a few weeks ago, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that all iPhone 4 buyers would receive a free case. The cases are intended to cover a sensitive area of the external antenna, which caused attenuation when touched directly by the user.

"We've been working really really hard to try to understand the problem so that when we solve it, we really solve it, rather than just putting a band-aid on it," said Jobs, in a serious 15-minute presentation that lasted 30 minutes.

Previous iPhone "bumper" case purchasers are expected to receive a refund.
