Grand Theft Auto 5: Bickering? Ranting?
Here on Herd of Cats bickering and ranting is what we would call a Tuesday
If we were concerned about games causing bickering, ranting and an all out flame war then we would never play anything together.
Wait. Sorry. Let me correct that. Graybush, Coxxorz, SeanMCR and I would never play anything together. I never know where the rest of you are...
Why do I have hopes for Grand Theft Auto V despite our history with Grand Theft Auto IV?
Two main reasons. Grand Theft Auto IV was released in 2008. Since then Rockstar has provided us with:
- Red Dead Redemption
- Max Payne 3
Rated 94% and 84% respectively.
While Max Payne 3 produced little impact on the site, mainly due to it's single player nature, it was an exceptionally well paced game with significantly improved gun play. Particularly in it's multiple player modes. These improvements have, reportedly, been carried over into Grand Theft Auto V.
Red Dead Redemption on the other hand provided us with a significant amount of prime content:
- The moron twins
- Stormblade of the Dance's first appearance
- shotgun
- Even Ice and Huge got into the action
Red Dead Redemption built challenges and sieges into the multi-player open world making a first step away from Grand Theft Auto IV relatively benign open world.
This next evolution of Rockstar's open world formula Grand Theft Auto Online is set to include challenges, car races, user created car races, interactive non player characters, missions (heists) for 4-12 players. Essentially moving the story type of missions over into co-op multiplayer. Oh, you don't have to play cooperatively.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy Grand Theft Auto V multi-player, in fact I wasn't even planning on buying Grand Theft Auto V. But the more I read about what to expect I find myself looking forward to schooling cooperatively assisting some of you in a truly massive open world.

I have still not recovered from GTA IV and I will not forgive Rockstar for that game.
...but your eyes... your eyes say yes.
They say yes, yes, yes, oh god, yes.
I really hope that is for GTAV and not for... well... you know... Other things.
Just no.
Next week then?
