So, Stormblade, I don't think you are going to make it...

Anyway, happy tenth HoC.

HoC Random Upcoming Anniversary of the Decade - 08132017

By Blackwalt - Posted on 13 August 2017

August 14, 2007 was an ignominious day

So tomorrow is August 14. 2017. And at some point last week I remembered that it will be the Tenth Anniversary of HerdofCats.ca. This did not spur me into planning anything. I guess this means I will be counting on you guys for content tomorrow.

Hello? Anyone? Damn crickets.

So yeah, anyway... I haven't done or planned anything other than remembering that it is tomorrow. Seems almost appropriate somehow.

Windows Central: First look at the new Xbox Avatars

By Blackwalt - Posted on 13 August 2017

Whoot! Yay! I guess...

Microsoft has been working on new Xbox avatars for quite a while, having teased them several months ago. They're nearly ready for prime time as part of the Fall Creators Update for Xbox One, and we got an early look.

Video after the break.

Collectors Edition unveiled for Call of Duty: WWII

By Blackwalt - Posted on 08 August 2017

Complete with Commemorative Bronze Statue

We here at HoC are busy arguing between this, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Crackdown 3. Getting a little too close to call. Bad enough with just the standard editions. All the special, collectors, valor, limited, super deluxe versions just complicate things even further.

Contents of the two different Valor editions of Call of Duty: WWII are listed after the break.

HoC Twitch Experiment: Black Ops III kind of a fail

By Blackwalt - Posted on 21 July 2017

It turns out there may have been a reason.

Two out of four HoC members would not join the Party Chat stream. One refused and one didn't want to figure it out (too busy killing zombies). The third connected before I even finished asking. So SeanMCR and I chatted to the world (and sometimes empty air when chatting with the other two).

A new horror rises on November 3.

HoC Sega Nite Twitch Experiment ran for two hours

By Blackwalt - Posted on 20 July 2017

And worse, it's archived for your amusement

There were no issues other than sarcasm and bad play. Neither of us noted any lag issues. There was, obviously, a time delay in the broadcast. Oddly, my time delay was less than Pwn Call's.

Coxxorz/Pwn Call was required to download the Twitch App on his Xbox One but we think this was just Twitch self propagating. We think the only required step is to go into your party chat window and approve Broadcast streaming. Working this out lead to ten minutes of me talking to myself. Online.

We had a pick on Stormblade moment 12 minutes in. It was sadly disappointing as neither of us had prepared for it. You would think we could just whip this stuff off but apparently we need to work at it.

The World lost George Romero, 77, on July 17

By Blackwalt - Posted on 20 July 2017

Time to shut down the site I guess

No!!! Not George! The God Father of Zombies and a star in Call of Duty's Zombie Mode passed away due to lung cancer.

Here is an excerpt from the Globe and Mail:

George Romero, whose classic Night of the Living Dead and other horror films turned zombie movies into social commentaries and who saw his flesh-devouring undead spawn countless imitators, remakes and homages, has died. He was 77.

Mr. Romero died Sunday following a battle with lung cancer, his family said in a statement provided by his manager Chris Roe. Mr. Romero’s family said he died while listening to the score of The Quiet Man, one of his favourite films, with his wife, Suzanne Desrocher, and daughter, Tina Romero, by his side.

Go well George, if anyone deserves to come back as a zombie, it should be you.

Herd of Cats now experimenting with Twitch

By Blackwalt - Posted on 19 July 2017

I warned you this might be bad

The Herd of Cats twitch feed is available here. Don't expect a lot of content right away as we are mostly experimenting.

Coxxorz and I are having a Fortnite co-op day and since most of you can't make it (or, maybe, weren't invited) we thought it would only be considerate of us to let you watch us play.

Starting sometime early afternoon this Friday we will start streaming our initial experience with Fortnite. Have watching some early streams of Fortnite I have discovered that there is no way we can be worse.

Coxxorz is concerned about what he might say about other clan members while he is broadcasting. If nothing else will make you tune in, that should do it. Me personally? I insult most of you to your faces so how different will this be? (Except Stormblade because that is a secret hate. I may need to run a separate stream just for that...)

I may have made a small error in judgement

By Blackwalt - Posted on 17 July 2017

But I did minimize the damage by using Kijiji

For reference, the original Xbox One had a port specifically designed to support the Xbox One Kinect. In their wisdom Microsoft removed this Kinect port from the Xbox One S which now requires a specialized $50 adapter to support the Kinect. That is what is in the white, right hand box.

When you realize what I am hoping to use the Kinect for you may be upgrading the small error in judgement to a significant error in judgement.

Fortnite: Search for Survivors

By Blackwalt - Posted on 17 July 2017

Anyone interested in picking up Fortnite should join in the Search for Survivors

EpicGames is running a Search for Survivors promotion. Sign up to unlock five in-game weapons before launch.

This may be worth it even if you are not planning to pickup Fortnite until the Free to Play option in 2018. Five extra weapons is five extra weapons. So far, only the first four have been unlocked: Bullseye, Bolt Slinger, Old Faithful, and Razor. I am still waiting on the Clipper, a pump action shotgun. Pictures and descriptions are after the break.

Fortnite pricing: no CDN surcharge for CDN Xbox Gamers

By Blackwalt - Posted on 15 July 2017

Xbox Store Canadian prices are the same as U.S. Prices for Fortnite

$39.99, $59.99, $89.99, $149.99$39.99, $59.99, $89.99, $149.99

I had trouble with the headline for this article trying to easily explain what is going on with Canadian Fortnite pricing. I hope it is fairly clear.

In a discussion online last night I discovered that Canadian Xbox gamers are getting an unexpected discount on Fortnite.

On the Official Fortnite Site the four available editions are priced at $39.99, $59.99, $89.99, and $149.99. All prices in U.S. Dollars.

On the Canadian Microsoft Store and in the Xbox Store the Fortnite Versions are priced at $39.99, $59.99, $89.99, and $149.99. All prices in Canadian Dollars. With the Canadian Dollar presently worth $0.79 American that is a significant discount for Canadian Xbox Gamers.

This is not the same for Canadian PC/Mac and Playstation Gamers.

OMG! The price for Assassin's Creed Unity has now jumped to $4.99 CAD on Cdkeys.

If you are interested in the newly released Middle-Earth: Shadow of War but don't want to jump in at $79.99 You can see where it all started with Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (Standard Disc Version) for $11.99 at the Microsoft Store.
Now you too can follow the yellow brick road to platform 9¾ while trying to roll a critical hit.

I wish someone looked at me the way you look at your rocket launcher.
