What's the best selling game of the year (in the US)?
That's right, a controller with a bunch of (from what I have played and seen) crappy mini games.
Some will argue that it's not a game at all. But it's still number 1.
Also note that most of the games are for the Wii, and Mario Kart DS (sitting at #10) has been out for over three years. Where's Halo3 after only a little over a year? Gone. That's because it only has a initial sales spike, then nobody buys it.

The NPD info this is based on does not include PC sales.
Thus ignoring World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King which probably sold okay.
And also ignoring sales of the PC version of Grand Theft Auto which sold a combined 5,180,000 across Xbox 360 and PS3 leaving it only 100,000 behind the Wii Play sales. I suspect that after the PC game sales are added that Grand Theft Auto will take over the top spot (note that Grand Theft Auto takes fifth and eighth places instead of being combined for second spot...).
Or that someone else will "spin" the NPD data another way to make it say whatever they want it to.
That you of all people would mention PC to try to skew the data on Console sales. I believe the article is purely talking about consoles.
I run windows as home. It's what I play RTS games on although lately most of my time has been on Xbox Live.
And it never once says console sales. It says game sales and also video game sales totally ignoring the fact that no one really tracks PC (and Mac) game sales.
The NPD numbers don't include everything. That's all.
But you can't really track PC hardware, since PCs are used for things other than just games. And as for software sales, the numbers usually aren't very good as they do not take into account digital distributions methods such as Steam (nor micro-transactions, online subscriptions, etc.).
Besides, GTA4 was released on 3 platforms, and most of those nintendo games are only for the Wii or DS.
It's a controller.
You're forced to buy the game if you want to play socially, which I understand is a large part of the point of this system.
Got any figures for Xbox controller sales?
But when I get a Wii, I'll buy it (it makes sense, since the controller is 45$ and the game is 60 [I think]).
I never see sales figures for xbox controllers though....
Reminds me of the trick where Sony was counting PS3 games as part of their total Blu-Ray sales to inflate HD market share figures.
They are both crummy scams. Half the time when stores use to "run out of" Wiimotes they would have shipments of Wii Play come in, and so people would buy those.
