March 2009 Top Picks
Five and a half pages for March. Saints Row 2 is starting to die out (you're welcome Swag) and World War II Nazi Zombies are making a comeback. "Press 'Y' to start Nazi Zombie Diversion!" Don't worry, Saints Row 2 DLC is coming this month so April can still be saved!
- 2189 reads - A Masterpiece from HoC
- 1895 reads - HoC Periodic Table of Xbox Games - Elements/Games list
- 257 reads - The Saints Row 2 Tornado ruined my weekend
- 225 reads - New Nazi Zombie map in CoD: WaW downloadable content
All Blackwalt, all the time. What can I say, maybe someone else should try posting something. Getting the Periodic Table of Xbox Games mentioned on Geekologie seems to have bumped the numbers on the top two stories slightly. Three and four spots are split between Saints Row 2 and Nazi Zombies, so no real surprise there. I added a fourth entry because the top two stories are both periodic table related. I didn't want to add a fifth because it wouldn't have been a Blackwalt entry and I wanted a clean sweep (I did have 6 and 8 though).

An interesting coincidence...
A quick note on randomness
Just as my story on Game Informer brought out the first image I every posted on the site I discovered in the "way back machine" that our first gaming night posted on the site was GRAW2.
Game Informer 12th most read magazine in the US
Outsells Maxim(23), Playboy(22) and Time(13)
I have only recently started reading Game Informer (the last year or so) and it has become my favourite gaming magazine. It still surprised me to see how well it is doing overall.
More details over at Kotaku along with a complete list of the top 25 magazines.
Game Informer is owned by GameStop and it is good to see a gaming magazine succeed while many are ceasing to publish (EGM for example).
New Xbox 360 firmware update
Watch for it next time you play
Xbox Live's Major Nelson has all the details.
- A few minutes ago, the team released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. This update addresses interruption issues that some Xbox LIVE users may have experienced when playing a limited number of Xbox 360 games.
As my experience last night playing Graw 2 and Call of Duty Zombie Mode was a series of "interruption issues" let's hope this update fixes something.
This is not a joke!
But in honour of April FOols day, I call on all you fools to gather online tonight for a little retro gaming.
Remember Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter? Forget to trade it in? Good. Dust it off, fire it up, install the inevitable updates, and all (free) downloadable content, because it's RETRO NIGHT!
Be there or be square.
UPDATE: That's GRAW 2 in case you're wondering.
UPDATED UPDATE: Or how about Rainbow Six? Haven't played that in a while. Read more
How my Life Sucks - Part Uh..lost count a long time ago.
Well this is just to let Revek know that he isn't the only one who's life sucks.
Well I am in Bridgehead (Albert & Bank) doing my normal Lunch time ritual.
And I notice this girl (in my books 7, or 4 beers or Aquafresh girl, the kind of girl you bring home to mom).
She has a grey laptop with a crApple logo on it.
And I am thinking I have never seen a gray crApple before, so I kind of focus on it and notice that it is covering a Dell logo (not much better than crApple). I have a smirk on my face thinking of an openner. Read more
Saints Row 2 - Tastes like chicken
I admit, I've been putting this off. Procrastinating. Evading. Generally finding any excuse not to write this review.
Because yes, I am addicted to Saints Row 2.
I admit it took a long time to get past the initial revulsion. It took a long time to get into this game. Mostly this is because, despite assurances from certain smug individuals that infest this site, I was blinded by the GTA IV feel of this game. Really, the environment is similar in many ways to GTA. The gameplay is not, and that's where this game excels. Read more
Blackwalt discovers youth regenerating drug
While roaming through the local PharmaPlus looking for the valuepak of medicated ointment needed for Half-Pint's endless list of injuries (not to mention his own after Guba the Impaler attacks), Blackwalt was amazed to find a bottle of 'uisghe beatha'. Like all good Irishmen, he automatically assumed this to be the fabled Water of Life.
My hair grew back!
After following the detailed directions (drink it all and try not to throw up), he was amazed to find his genetic clock turned back 20 years. "My God, I have hair!", he exclaimed.
Coxxorz declares Blu-Ray the winner
Donates HD-DVD collection to Smithsonian
"The early HD-DVD adopters have been fighting a losing battle. I am facing the inevitable and switching to Blu-Ray" states the once adamant HD-DVD supporter.
But what will he do with all the Xbox 360 HD-DVD players he has purchased on drastic discounts?
"I'll find someway to embed them into my Blu-Ray system!" claimed Coxxorz.
Stormblade buys a Wii
The Xbox 360 just wasn't enough
"The Wii fit is the most advanced technology I have ever seen" states Stormblade.
In a shocking turn of events Stormblade has fallen under the sway of Swag and Noir and has ditched his Xbox 360 for a Wii.
"The HD from this thing is awesome" Stormblade said.
It has been difficult to get information from Stormblade as he refuses to leave his apartment. This would cause him to stop playing All Star Cheer Squad or Wii Music something he has sworn not to do for "at least a month man, the depth in Wii games is unbelievable. That Miyamoto is a genius."
Frankly, I now plan on purchasing a Wii on my way home.
We aren't the only Herd that likes to kill Nazi Zombies
Lots of people are not as resistant as Coxxorz to spending $10 for Zombies
CallofDuty.com reports that Call of Duty®: World at War Map Pack 1 passed the one million download mark.
- On top of that, Major Nelson reports Call of Duty: World at War is the most-played Xbox LIVE title again… Amidst all this great news, we just wanted to point out that none of this would have been possible without the continued support from all of our fans – that’s you – and the support worldwide from gamers, enthusiasts, and press.
Xbox Live 15 minute subscription $19.99
In a long-awaited marketing move, Microsoft announced today that they will be offering Xbox Live 15-minute subscription cards for $19.99. The new compact denomination is expected to boost short-term sales, and help Microsoft's bottom line this fiscal quarter.
Todd Holmdahl, Corporate VP of Gaming explains:
More Saints Row 2?
Why, yes please!
The first downloadable content for Saints Row 2 is due April 16th. It will cost 800 MS points ($10) so don't expect to see Coxxorz and will be called Ultor Exposed.
A full interview is available at IGN.com.
According to Eurogamer this is just the first of three DLCs coming for Saints Row 2.
I am so happy I could cry. Wait... that's a tear! I am crying...
And to top it off the DLC comes with a virtual Tera Patrick who is one of your homies during the game. She becomes available for the entire game, not just the DLC. We are never going to see MoriceRevek again.
Wow
Microsoft is really getting innovative...
Ok granted it is PDP that is releasing this motion sensing Gametrak Freedom controller for the Xbox 360. But my hat is off them for thinking of something cool and new.
End Sarcasm
I am now looking forward to being a Hunter...
Next time we play adversarial L4D, I won't mind being the Hunter.
