Saint's Row 2 was a lot of fun
Blackwalt and Cozzorz visit Stillwater
The biggest problem I had with GTA IV was it's habit of taking itself too seriously. As a war veteran of a brutal war Niko Bellic was very much a violent man. But he just did it. Shoot a cop, blink, drive over an old lady, blink, blow up a crowd, blink. "Rock in roll is serious business" and he never cracked a smile.
Your character in Saint's Row 2? Well he (or she) is not like that at all. They never shut up as you are killing cops, crowds, cars, gang members. "Nut shot!", "How did you like that?", etc. Lively comments and fun. Not PG or PC in any way.
Saint's Row 2 is a seriously visceral game and it's a blast. It doesn't take itself seriously in any way, shape or form.
Expanding on the 'Retro' theme
In keeping with some of our retro discussions of late, I found this article on the 10 best old school arcade games. Number 5 was my favourite in this group. Read more
Brrrrr... it's cold outside!
And what better way to warm up than with a nice, hot Xbox 360?
So grab your copy of Saints Row 2 and a pylon, and let's bring back that old timey sandbox fun, Herd of Cats style!
I'm warming up the helicopter right now... Read more
Battlestar Galactica episode 13: The Oath
This latest season has started up a bit slow, with the first two episodes laying the ground work, but I think BSG is back on track with this latest episode. Read more
January 2009 Top Picks
Five pages for January, seems to be our average.
- 253 reads - Now I really want that iPod touch
- 204 reads - Request: Burnout Paradise
- 177 reads - Better than Vista
Read numbers way up across the chart. All three stories with well over 100 reads including two past 200 (there were a lot of stories with more than 100). Stormblade finding a comic comparing Vista to Hitler. Seems fair. Swag's desperate plea for a good game now that he finally has a good console. Welcome to the real world. What's it like becoming an adult? (Owww!!! Kettle meet pot.) And Blackwalt finds a good use for an iPod Touch and demonstrated that all HoC members are hoping for a world without Stormblade. ...again.
Disallowed from both categories on a technicality was Coxxorz's HOC Night! which had 246 reads and 37 comments. This would have placed second in both categories if it had not been an event. Sorry Coxxorz. Sucks to be you.

Resident Evil 5 demo - Impressions
I find it somewhat strange that a game with ZOMBIES (well, technically they might not be zombies, but still) and CO-OP has gone completely unnoticed on this site.
That being said, I was quite looking forward to this game after the amazing Resident Evil 4 for the GameCube. They have kept the same over-the-shoulder third person view, similar game mechanics, and have added another character that tags along with you. Read more
Going to the movies

I guess it had to happen
I just didn't think it would happen so soon, and so... completely.
Amazon.ca is selling the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection. Now this is not your typical $9.95 "Game-Console-in-a-Controller" shopping mall special, this is the real deal. Released by Sega on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, this baby boasts over 40 classic games from the Sega Genesis library (some more classic than others– Ecco the Dolphin? Ecchhh...). Read more
NHL Arcade for Stormblade
Well EA has apparently made a ridiculous Bobble head hockey game. They apparently had stormblade in mind when they created it.
"He is his father's son!"
I have no idea what Guba means by this.
So Rolly and I had a Lego weekend. More Lego than normal I mean. This was built up to over the past month by Rolly's interest in Lego Power Miners. Something that both his parents supported him in. This was a new Lego theme that was all Rolly's own. It has Rock Monsters that eat crystals and six different sets that build various crystal mining machines. And for your info "I don't want five!" doesn't mean what you would think. It means he wants six ("I don't want two!" was even more confusing). Rolly is still missing set number 8961 -The Crystal Sweeper. He enjoys the monsters, the vehicles, the web site, and particularly the designer's videos – which I admit are very entertaining.
So this leads us into our Lego weekend which is broken into two separate stories: Read more
Super Bowl Weekend to remember.
Saturday Afternoon.
Pre-Super Bowl winter BBQ at a buddies place where he actually created this. And was trying to get me to eat it and I told him no it's ok I like my arteries just the way they are.
The evening went rather well then it was my Sifu's birthday which I reluctantly enjoyed crappy Chinese food.
Then I was off to a Caribbean party. Where I made a few new female friends.
Sunday
Did the usual though I woke up a little later for obvious reasons. Read more
Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage
The first DLC for Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage basically is a new quest to the regular game.
I have not finished the regular game as of yet. But I would guess if you did you will need to load a previous save.
The story behind it is the liberation of Anchorage Alaska from the Communists Chinese. If you played the regular game I am sure you have seen the 'newspaper' pictures during the load screens. Also there is some amusing things about the annexation of Canada. Read more
Uh-oh! Times up!
Launch day 360's no longer under extra warranty
More details at Destructoid.
Unfortunately for me I have no idea when my Xbox 360 core was built as I am on my fourth (!!!!) one since I got it. Twice under warranty and once under the extended MoriceRevek payment plan. That's where he borrows it, he breaks it, and you get to pay for it.
This is an extended deadline as the original 3 year plan expired last September.
This site may harm your computer
Funny thing happened this morning. Google broke the internets. EVERY Google search was tagging every hit as potentially harmful. I was thinking-- FINALLY, they tell it like it is.
Then it occurred to me they may not have meant it.
Of course, a few hours later, it was fixed, and of course Slashdot and every other aggregator out there was reporting on it. Read more
